RAQUEL APARICIO

Name: Raquel
Age: 26
Country: Spain
Website: http://www.raquelissima.com

What are you inspired by? And who do you look up to?
I enjoy reading a lot, I get most of my ideas from reading, I also watch lots of documentaries about animals and diferent countries and space . I also spend a lot of time with my sketchbook.
Which influential artist would you like to ask for advice?
If he was alive I would like a review of my portfolio from Harry Clarke.

If you had to put up one piece of artwork on your wall and stare at it for a year, who would it be by and why?
Maybe The Sketelon Spectre by Kuniyoshi, I really like that piece.

Tell us about your creative process.
To me first is the idea, I draw some rough, loose sketches and when I like any of them I just draw it in a refined way. I like to use ink because it is very fast and I can get nice textures with it.

Do you ever find weird connections between life and art?
Sure, too many.

As an artist, are you Technical or passionate?
I always get nervous with every work, so I suppose I'm passionate.

How do you determine when a work is finished? Or is it ever finished?

I always want to change something, I don't like to look to my old drawings because I would change everything.

Do you have any magic cures for creative blocks?
Not really, I go out with my bike or for a walk and then I draw on my sketchbook a little.

Which art mediums and brands do you prefer to use?

Indian Ink and golden interference. I really love FW inks too.

What kind of art education do you have? Do you think it is important?
Yes! It's very important, maybe not an official education. I believe it is more important to keep educating yourself in many ways, keep going to exhibitions, reading, summer schools, screenprinting, baking cakes or whatever just experimenting new ways.

What kind of career do you ultimately want? And what kind of career do you think you'll end up having (or already have) realistically?

I just want to keep drawing for a living, I would like to do some more fashion drawings that could be fun.

Is your family supportive of your art? Who influenced and nurtured your creativity most?

My twin sister
Sae influenced me and my boyfriend too. We always work together so I feel it is impossible not to get influenced by them, I feel grateful to have them so close.

Who are some of your heroes outside of the visual art stream?

as I said before my boyfriend and my twinsister Saelia.blogspot.com, Harry Clarke, Kuniyoshi, Atom Mato, Sam Weber among many, many others.
